Through 2 Lenses
Your next shooting problem is Through 2 lenses. Through 2 lenses will be a diptych that showcases an issue / problem / idea from two different perspectives. A common example of this would be a political issue. In the US, we have two main sides, republican and democrat. You could solve this problem by showcasing an image through the eyes of a republican and the other from the eyes of a democrat. In no way does this need to be political or even an major issue, just something that can be displayed from two different sides (and that you care about).
How can you show the same issue from two different people?
Does your image have to be from the perspective of an individual person?
What is going on in my life that I can visually showcase?
What is an issue you feel strongly about?
How can you use your photographs as a statement?
You will need to set up your scenes, so consider the following:
Studio lighting
Characters (clothing, body language, facial expression)
Point of view (who's perspective is it)?
Props
Environment
This assignment will require you to do a lot of planning before you shoot (visual journal and thumbnails). Take a look at the slide presentation below to see examples of each.

Community
Every community has its distinct traditions, values and norms. Communities provide a wealth of organized and deep rooted knowledge. This knowledge becomes the property of that particular community and plays an important role in shaping the identity structures of its members.
Certainly a geographic area such as Columbia would be one definition of a community, but if one reflects on the definition of community, it could be expanded to include more then just a physical place.
Before you shoot or think about composition, you need to get an idea of what community is to you and create a visual journal based off of that idea. This can be based on the multiple communities you belong to, a specific community, issues, traditions, values of a community or anything else you may think of. It must be done by the dates on the right.
Specs:
- 2 page spread (1 piece of artwork)
- Includes images (must be high quality) or hand drawn elements
- Background addressed
- Must include some thoughts about what it is you want to show.
- This should be associated with what community / aspects of a community you want to shoot. Be practical, do not do something related to families around christmas as you cannot shoot it in that time frame.

Cliche Verre
Cliches verre is a greek phrase meaning "glass picture". It was originally used by blackening a piece of glass from candle smoke. After the glass was fully coated, an artist would etch into the smog on the glass using a variety of tools and techniques. A piece of photo sensitive paper would be placed under the glass and exposed to the sun to create a print. Using a combination of plates and negatives, ordinary images can be transformed into abstract prints.

Narrative Panorama Sketches
Over the weekend you will need to sketch out 3 different ideas for a narrative panorama. These sketches do not need to be works of art (see example), they just need to be able to showcase an idea. Remember that this can be vertical, horizontal or something in between.
Specifications:
1. Need to have 3 different ideas.
2. Needs to show the individual frames, remember that this will be one image over the course of 3 or 4 photographs (or more).
3. You need to write down a brief thought about what is going on in your sketches.
4. Label anything that may look confusing.
Narrative Panorama Problem Statement
For our next shooting problem, you will be taking a role similar to a film director. A film director is responsible for visually illustrating a story in film. He / She makes decisions on everything from lighting, point of view, composition, props and interaction between characters. Similar to a film director, you will be creating a story over the course of at least 3 images in the form of a panorama.
We've learned that when two images are placed directly next to one another, they can create an interesting relationship. To present your story for this assignment, you will be creating a "panorama," or a series of connected images that extend a view either horizontally or vertically. These images must all connect to create a single scene.

Show me how you shoot
For our first shooting assignment, you will be shooting 24 different exposures on a single subject. Your challenge will be to create 24 unique compositions of the same subject matter. Within your 24 exposures will be required to show an example of each principle of composition. Your subject matter is open to whatever you want it to be.
Think about how you approach your subject. Here are some questions that will help guide your work:
What are some different point of view techniques that are possible with this subject matter?
What alterations can I make to the subject?
What are some lighting techniques that I can use?
---- you are not allowed to bracket your film-----
